đ If you made it this far, I am proud of you.
Youâve just read 24 headlines from the past 24 hours â each one, on its ownâŚcrazy.
What a time to be alive.
Taken together, they paint a picture not just of a chaotic news cycle, but of a government, a country, and a moment in history that has slipped far outside the boundaries of what we once called normal â and is now testing how much strain our democratic norms can absorb before they completely shatter.
Iâve been doing these every morning before 7am for weeks now, and I donât say this lightly: as both a historian and a lawyer, everything about this moment feels overwhelming â NOT bc it is unfamiliar, but bc it is familiar in the ways history warns us about.
That recognition is what makes it what actually makes this work frightening.
These headlines are not just news bites â theyâre pieces of a pattern; a map of whatâs happening to our government, our institutions, and our daily lives.
The fact that this blog gets shared by the thousands every day isnât about numbers or reach â it is evidence of people choosing to pay attention in a moment when disengagement would be easier.
I can not ignore that; and neither should you.
It is awareness spreading⌠and awareness is the FIRST STEP toward accountability.
You cannot confront what you refuse to see, and you cannot defend what you do not even understand.
So⌠THANK YOU again to everyone who keeps sharing these summaries, leaving your feedback, and asking to dive deeper; I find so much comfort in your replies, whether you realize it or not.
All I ask⌠Donât scroll past. Donât let it grow distant. Do not shrug off what is happening, as if it exists somewhere else.
Let it shock you.
Let it unsettle you.
Bc when your moral instincts still recoil, it means your inner compass refuses to bend to the injustice â and in that, there is still hope.
Hope that can continue the fight to preserve the things truly worth saving.
Hope, bc you have not let the very real evil of all this bs rob you of the ability of still seeing the good worth fighting for.
This world is shifting under our feet â fast, and often without warning.
Stand WITH it. Stand IN it. Stand FOR it.
Mostly, I just thank you for standing.
For noticing.
For refusing to look away every morning with me; 10 toes down, 2 eyes forward.
Breathe DEEP⌠hold it⌠EXHALE⌠2 more times⌠and then keep it moving. We got **** to do.

đ Yes. All of that â every single headline â happened in the last 24 hours. That is the pace of the world right now.
Thank you for showing up with me every day, for every âthank youâ you leave in the comments proving to the world, and me, you have not given up.
I donât need to give too long a message this morning. These headlines are enough to swallow.
But Iâve spent my life as an educator, historian, and now lawyer reading patterns, and the pattern is clear.
Look at some of the states being targeted heaviest: Minnesota, Maine, California, Oregon.
Economically strong. Socially resilient. Communities where people report higher life satisfaction, stronger social trust, better health and stability than the national average.
These are places that function.
They are proof points.
And that is PRECISELY why they are being pressured, destabilized, and publicly tested.
Not because they are failing â but because their success complicates a narrative that depends on disorder.
Authoritarian movements historically do not go where systems have already collapsedâthey go where institutions still WORK.
Consider Weimar Germany in the early 1930s: the economy was recovering, parliamentary structures existed, and courts still functioned, yet the Nazi Party deliberately sowed chaos in politics, the press, and street-level enforcement to erode confidence in democracy.
They didnât target states already in collapse â they targeted the functioning institutions, the cities and systems that still demonstrated stability.
They introduced disorder not to solve problems, but to make governance itself look impossible.
When a society shows that different groups can coexist peacefully, that people can invest in their communities, and that laws can be fairly applied while life remains safe and prosperous â it becomes a target.
Thatâs why the focus isnât on states with the highest crime rates or the largest immigrant populations - and instead on the ones that quietly disprove the story.
Thatâs what #24in24 is really about.
This isnât information meant to be sipped, skimmed, or softened.
No. Truth at moments like this has to be swallowed whole. Regularly.
The volume of headlines is not just noise â it is data on the historical timeline.
It is the pattern revealing itself in real time.
And once you see that pattern, you understand where we are and why we are here.
We are in a moment of strain, where institutions that should protect orderâgovernments, courts, the pressâare under pressure, and stability itself feels fragile.
We are here because forces, deliberate and structural, have destabilized trust, punished achievement, and made clarity a rare and rebellious act.
Seeing this pattern is how we understand the world as it is: chaotic, tested, and in need of resistance.
Recognizing that is not panic.
It is orientation.
And orientation is how you keep your footing when everything else is trying to knock you off balance.
In that orientation, you will find your power.
You will find your courage.
You will find a light that such chaos cannot touch.
Just remember to hold the candle steady, and keep the flame alive.
Drop a đŻď¸in comments if you made it this far.
And donât forget to breathe DEEP⌠hold it⌠release⌠and repeat as necessary. âđ
#SteadyTheFlame

"I came to Minneapolis to report on what's going on, and one of the main questions I showed up with is "just what is the scale of the resistance?" After all, we're all used to the news calling Portland a "war zone" or whatever when it's just some protests in one part of town.
"I got in late last night. First thing this morning, I saw cars following an ice vehicle down the street, honking at it.
" Later, we didn't drive more than three blocks before we found people defending a childcare facility. (The idea that people have to defend a childcare facility... let that sink in)
"Half the street corners around here have people--from every walk of life, including republicans--standing guard to watch for suspicious vehicles, which are reported to a robust and entirely decentralized network that tracks ICE vehicles and mobilizes responders.
"I have been actively involved in protest movements for 24 years. I have never seen anything approaching this scale. Minneapolis is not accepting what's happening here. ICE ******* murdered a woman for participating in this, and all that did is bring out more people, from more walks of life.
"It's genuinely a leaderless (or leaderful) movement, decentralized in a way that the state is absolutely unequipped to handle. There are a few basic skills involved, and so people teach each other those skills, and people are collectively refining them.
"Before I came, I asked a local friend if the cold (it's going to be -20 or so in the coming days) would stop people from coming out. "No, we'll be there. It's ICE who can't handle it."
"Today I talked with a 76 year old who'd been standing in the cold for hours guarding her neighbors. I was getting kind of chilly, even in the new winter gear i bought for this trip (and I live in the goddam mountains myself).
"She didn't even have a hat on.
"Another person put it: "we're Minnesotans. We're excited to get out our real winter gear out of the box for the year."
"He was an audio engineer whose kid went to school in the area. No way in hell was he going to let anyone come for the kids on his watch.
" Another friend put it to me like this: "ICE has made the classic Nazi mistake. They've invaded a winter people in the winter."
"I don't want to paint a rosy picture, because it's a city under siege. People are being abducted all the time. One person told me about watching 1-2 abductions a day, just in her own work following ICE.
"But when I asked an organizer what they wanted to see out of press coverage, they told me they wanted people to see the beautiful things they are building here, and not just the worst stories of the worst of ICE's crimes.
"What people are doing here is beautiful. It's a tragic beauty, but a real one.
"I've been here 24 hours, but already with what I've seen, well, I genuinely believe we're going to win. People here are well aware that what happens here impacts the entire country, that it sets the tone for resistance. ICE is angry, ICE is terrified, of how deeply unpopular it is.
"I've never seen a population more united. If people can hold onto that unity, if people can accept that different people will have different ways of confronting fascism, if we can remind NGOs and orgs that they can join but not control the resistance, then, well, people here will write history."

I went from begging Democrats not to fund the IDF as they shot a 6 year old to death waiting in a car for an ambulance in Gaza to begging Dems not to fund ICE as they teargassed a 5 year old in a car in Minnesota.
Spoiler Alert: They funded both.

"Q: How did we get here where armed federal agents are kidnapping Americans off the street & shooting them in the face?
A: We got here, because in 2016, the DNC pushed out Bernie to run Hillary because "it was her turn." Hillary was a total hawk. If they hadn't done that, we probably wouldn't have had Trump the first time, & we wouldn't be here now.
We got here, because Blue-No-Matter-Who ensures that the Democrats can run whatever s**t-candidate they want to, & you people will still vote for them. They have been getting consistently more right-wing every single year.
We got here, because there has been a live-streamed genocide going on for 2 1/2 years that we are funding & arming, that started under the Biden/Harris administration. Harris, who said she wanted "the most lethal fighting force in the world," Harris, who increased the ICE budget, Harris, who was tougher than Trump in the campaign for immigration laws, & said she would change nothing under the Biden administration, she campaigned with f**king Republicans - Cheneys, no less - & yet you try to shame those of us who didn't vote for her, for not voting for her.
We got here because the IDF trains American law enforcement. DHS & ICE have an office in Tel Aviv. So does the NYPD. They are now doing to Americans what they've been doing to Palestinians for f**king decades. And no one said a word.
The DNC has been against the people since my mother was a child - since Henry Wallace, the nominee of the new Progressive Party in 1948, tried to run for president after FDR in 1948. [My mother would have been 20 in that election so not yet able to vote.]
That's how we got here.
And now, it's too late. And now you're going to have to do something. No revolution has ever been bloodless.
FREE PALESTINE!"
True words from my Facebook friend Debby Manera. đ
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Yesterday & this morning, one of these Blue-No-Matter-Who voters in San Francisco called me an antisemite for a post I made about how the Democratic base has shifted massively against I$rael while politicians like Gavin Newson are denying the genocide in Gaza. That's how we got here.

The video footage from the MN Pink Lady confirms:
1. He had a phone in his hand, not a gun
2. He went to help up woman violently shoved by an agent;
3. Both were then pepper sprayed in face at point blank range
4. He put himself between agents and the woman, they were sprayed again
5. At least 8 agents then swarmed him, beat him, pistol-whip him
6. Agents then fire 10 shots
At NO POINT did he âapproach US BP agents with a 9mm semiautomatic handgun,â like BP Chief Bovino said at his press conference
At NO POINT did it this look like âa situation where an individual wanted to do maximum damage and massacre law enforcement,â like BP Chief Bovino also said.
We all witnessed another execution this morning by federal immigration agents.
Be VERY clear.
Lastly:
