It’s a lot for a Sunday.
As a historian and lawyer, I started this mission a few weeks ago.
Like many, I have been trying to keep up with the breaking news. One day, I made the egregious mistake of taking an afternoon nap, and when I looked to see the things I had missed in the 2 hours I was out; it was staggering—at least for someone who considered themselves so tapped in.
I got curious. I posted a recap that afternoon. Then I kept digging.
I ended up not sleeping that night, and I haven’t slept much every night since.
Bc when one goes looking like I do every day now, THIS is only a fraction of what you will find. The rest, are no better — I promise.
But that’s how I knew for SURE it wasn’t on accident; that they were flooding the zone again like DJT 1.0 - but WAY WORSE.
See, I had forgotten the rule: when they flood the zone, that’s your signal.
Authoritarians don’t hide their moves behind silence; they hide them behind everything happening at once.
They make you tired, distracted, overwhelmed. They make you doubt your own sense of scale. And when you finally look away—just for a moment—that’s when the real shift happens.
So, I started tracking, and then started sharing. Not because it’s fun.
Dang sure not bc it’s healthy (it has taken its toll). But bc someone has to stand still long enough to see the shape the chaos is taking.
Someone has to map a through‑line when everything is engineered to feel disconnected.
And here’s what I’ve learned: the danger isn’t just in the headlines, it’s in the velocity of them.
It’s in how quickly the public gets desensitized in scroll-culture; one tragedy after another. How fast even seasoned people—historians, lawyers, journalists—begin to shrug off what would’ve once shaken a entire nation.
That’s how democracies erode — not with 1 catastrophic event, but with a thousand tiny slits of its fabrics that we’ve been too exhausted to even name.
What I ask you to remember today is that democracy doesn’t just need defenders in courtrooms or newsrooms — it needs them in living rooms, classrooms, break rooms, and timelines. You MUST find a way to get in the way. This is one: awareness. #spreadit
