@coluber2001,
Jun 25, 2023 Gov. Ron DeSantis has toured the country calling Florida the place "where woke goes to die."

"Woke is a slang term that is easing into the mainstream from some varieties of a dialect called African American Vernacular English (sometimes called AAVE). In AAVE, awake is often rendered as woke, as in, 'I was sleeping, but now I'm woke.'."

I suppose it's somewhat synonymous with the black term, "soul," not a soul but "soul."

@izzythepush,
Yeah, that too.

Mary Trump called woke "basic human decency."
With that definition in mind, Florida is where basic human decency goes to die.

je-ne-sais-quoi

zhə-nə-ˌsā-ˈkwä

French for 'I don't know what': a pleasing quality that cannot be exactly named or described: Although he's not conventionally attractive, he has a certain je ne sais quoi that makes him popular with the ladies.

Feuersnot (Need for (or lack of) fire), Op. 50, is a Singgedicht (sung poem) or opera in one act by Richard Strauss.

Isn't German wonderful?

bloviate
blō′vē-āt″

To discourse at length in a pompous or boastful manner.

This morning on "This Week," ABC News' George Will called Donald Trump a "bloviating ignoramus," questioning why presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney is associating with the real estate mogul, who once again falsely questioned President Obama's birthplace this week."

Suburburban and city yard

A small tract of circumscribed territory where each owner of this tiny plot, once a week or so, walks it's entirety for an hour howling at the top of his lungs to mark his territory. He also delineates at least three borders of his yard with a urine fence on its exact borders.

Trumpery:

Trumpery is defined as worthless nonsense and trivial or useless articles, coincidentally, a perfect term for Trump's petty crusades and quixotic dreams.

A good example is Trump's idea of renaming the Gulf of Mexico the Gulf of America. More appropriately, it would be renamed the Gulf of Trumpery.

Interlard. To include something from a different source to liven up the conversation.

The adverts were interlarded with gossip.

This is new to me. It was in an obscure book published in the 1870s I'm currently reading.

Doublespeak, (noun)

"Doublespeak is a type of language that is intentionally used to mislead or deceive people. The goal of doublespeak is to make something negative seem positive, or to hide the truth."

"The term 'doublespeak' comes from George Orwell's novel 1984. It is a combination of Orwell's terms 'doublethink' and 'newspeak'."

"From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia"

"The Doublespeak Award was a humorous award in the United States of America. It was described as an 'ironic tribute to public speakers who have perpetuated language that is grossly deceptive, evasive, euphemistic, confusing, or self-centered', i.e. those who have engaged in doublespeak. It was issued by the US National Council of Teachers of English between 1974 and 2020."

Winner-"2019 – Donald Trump, for perpetuating language that is grossly deceptive, evasive, euphemistic, confusing, and self-centered."
