I've made a decision
Hello all, especially Letty,

I have decided on a fake Latin name for my mythical creature (thanks in part to Letty's suggestion.)

I will call it Hydrus-serpentus gigantus. It has an appropriately serious sound to it, and that's all I really wanted anyway. (I'm not sure what my editor will think!)

directed it to me by name.

Please don't think me rude. I was away from the board for a while and
then tried to help with some of the translation requests starting with the
oldest. I did not notice yours until you had already decided on a name.

I am faily pleased with my "fake" latin name.
Unless someone thinks that it is too silly, or redundant (hydra, serpent), I'm going with it.
My book is for young readers, Third to Fifth Grade reading levels, and the Latin definition of my creature is not crucial. However, the aim of the book is to expose kids to all kinds of writing. Woven into the story are labels, newspaper articles, a travel brochure, journal entries, a dictionary reference, and an encyclopedia reference.

I have written and illustrated (and published) 8 books for kids, but this is my first educational project.
