Not sure if this will do anything to dissuade Chinese abuses, but it's at least a recognition of what is going on with the Uyghurs. Combined with the WTA pulling out of China over Peng Shuai and we have an interesting dynamic going on. Many male tennis players are not interested in competing in China so you might see an official ATP pull out as well (or many just an absence of top players at tournaments).
Quote:President Joe Biden is set to announce a diplomatic boycott of the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing sometime this week amid ongoing criticism over the country’s human rights abuses, according to multiple reports.
The move will mean no American government officials will be in attendance during the games, although athletes will be allowed to compete as normal, CNN first reported.
Calls for some sort of diplomatic retaliation have only grown in recent months, with lawmakers from both parties asking Biden to hold China accountable for its treatment of Uyghur Muslims and a crackdown on free speech in Hong Kong.

@engineer,
I'm pretty sure it won't do anything to dissuade Chinese abuses, but I think every country should call a diplomatic boycott.
I refuse to buy anything made in China (wherever possible):

@engineer,
We may not dissuade, but we can register the complaint.
A couple of weeks ago I heard someone who had worked in the Obama administration being interviewed on Radio 4.
Sorry to be so vague.
This was when the tennis player was in the news, and he made the point that the suffering of the Uighurs was more significant, they have been persecuted for a long time, and they don't have celebrity status.
He said he didn't think it would do much good, the sport will still be going on.
It's not just China though, the World Cup will be in Qatar, F1 in Saudi Arabia and the new head of interpol is a torturer.
