g'day wildclickers!

clicked today - <last evening after midnight realized i hadn't clicked>

bad stradee Confused

clicking now though! Very Happy

Weather temps climbing again here in CA. News reports say 107 degrees by Saturday. We're concerned because of last summers wildfires that engulfed thousands of acres - the pines looking a tad peeked. A real concern for the Sierra foothills and higher elevations as well.

And well you should be concerned, Stradee.

As an ex-firefighter in SC, and gotten out of bed many times in the middle of the night to go fight lightning started fires in woods and fields, it is of huge concern.

We are still 7 inches down in rainfall here - and the fire season is just getting underway.

Getting rid of fuel (clearing out deadwood and some live wood) is labor-intensive, and thus expensive. It also is in conflict with some habitat needs, and conservation efforts, so not without controversy.

There is also much evidence of the beneficial long-term effects (on the ecological system in place) of periodic fires.

Complicated and fascinating stuff.

sumac, the county where i reside, there are programs offering no cost hazardous material removal <shrubs, deadwood, etc> from property owned by elderly people with fixed incomes.

County Fire Prevention Districts <in remote wooded areas> devised a program where property owners pile fire hazard materials and county hired companies remove the debris. Homeowners are responsible for gathering the materials. Work intensive yes, but well worth the effort considering the cost of replacing thier homes and belongings. Plus, what a great way for gathering family and friends for a party!

Communites taking responsibilty work together for conservation and preservation of thier homes and enviornment. Course, mother nature generally has the final word.

Kudos to our firefighter wildclicker ~ sumac! Smile

sumac, i'll meet ya all at the lake!

Danon, i sure hope your prediction for cooler weather arrives soon!

I can't remember ever seeing the skies so darned smoggy - especially at higher elevations of the Sierra's. Disheartening.

<sigh>

Sorry, Stradee,
The cold front of which I speak is approaching sumac but from the NW - not your area. ehBeth should be having cooler temps already.
