After seeing an entry for "I love you" in multiple languages, I was reminded of an earlier idea of my own to compile multilingual lists of certain types of words, such as lists of pronouns, lists of negative particles, lists of family terms, etc.

French: dans, pres de, avec, derriere, devant, dessous, dessus, entre

I think that a comparison of such "little" words as these can tell us much more than mere verb and noun cognates between languages. I want to see as many of them as possible to see if this curious list turns up new perspective for comparing languages, and tracing out in greater detail the transmission of common verb and noun cognates.

I want any words in the Gujarati tongue that function as the words above do - I am very interested in such an exotic sort of language (from my perspective). Gujarati prepositions will tell me a lot about linguistic cross currents that need to be taken into account for comparative linguistics. Without such lists as these, one may be near to a major lead in a linguistic connection yet not have the perspective to see it right about him.
Thank you one and all that have made contributions, or that shall yet do so.
