						What would be the term used to describe a person who thinks that a position, for example on a city Council, should be held by a person just because of their gender?
We had a situation in our small town where a female council person person got outvoted by a very small number of votes at the recent election.
A male person won the election. One of the other council persons said this never should’ve happened because we needed a female voice on the council. ( Never mind that she said on the council for three years like a bowl of cottage cheese)
Even before the election, this other council called for religious diversity, too. He’s anti Semitic , but what is the term for a call for gender preference?

													@PUNKEY,
												It's "sexism" but sometimes you hear it being called "reverse sexism".

													@PUNKEY,
												I think the reasons are important if you are trying to put a label on it. Saying all councilmen should be men or women because that gender is inherently superior is sexism. Saying there should be some representation because they bring a unique perspective on the constitutes is something else but I wouldn't call it sexism. For example, I used to live in a city has a very large black minority population, but the city council is elected at large so is almost entirely white. I wouldn't consider it racist if someone said it would be nice if at least one councilman was black to represent that part of the community.
