Thank you for saying it so well, Phoenix.

These are not bad people...just misguided ones.

They are intent on giving a clump of cells the right to abrogate the rights of living, breathing women. For the most part, they are doing it as part of their superstition...or religion, as they prefer to call it.

They can rail all they want to about not wanting to curtail a woman's right to control her own body...but what they are trying to do IS TO CURTAIL A WOMAN'S RIGHT TO CONTROL HER OWN BODY.

If a woman decides that she no longer wants to host a pregnancy...she should be allowed to terminate it at will.

I may have problems with careless women who should have taken better precautions...or with careless, uncaring men who should have taken better precautions...or with any of a dozen different things...

...BUT I WILL NOT BE A PARTY TO CURTAILING A WOMAN'S RIGHT TO CONTROL HER OWN BODY.

And these good folks...despite their protestations...ARE DOING EXACTLY THAT.

And as long as the lives of unborn children are at stake, I will maintain the same stand. I understand abortions in certain cases. Understand but don't like it.

But an ABORTION FOR CONVENIENCE SAKE is just flat out wrong!

Phoenix--
I agree that women are held as second-class citizens in the U.S. This certainly contributes to the number of unwanted pregnancies, but it is really a separate problem from abortion. It makes no sense to attempt to end the subjugation of women by allowing them to end the lives of others.

You are assuming a clump of cells to be a "life"...and because of that assumption, you are trying to take rights away from women.

An embryo is an embryo and a fetus is a fetus..and neither is any more a living human being than an egg is a chicken.

In your opinion Frank. Not mine and not many others. It is a child to many of us.

Frank- Observe any country that is "backward". One of the hallmarks of a backward country is the subjugation of women. Whether we are talking about the former Taliban government in Afghanistan, where women were under virtual "house arrest", or the countries in sub-Saharan Africa where female genital mutilitation is rampant, there is one thing that these countries have in common.

These are areas that have not achieved the western standard in terms of technological and industrial advancement. They are living as their forebears lived centuries ago. And they each have one thing in common, that they treat women as inferior to men, as creatures to use for a man's pleasure, to provide sons, and to control her activities.

And the United States, the shining example of democracy, the radicals, (and not so radical) amongst us are now seeking to emulate the tribal mentality of these areas, by attempting to deprive women the soverenity over their own bodies.

The thing that is so ridiculous, if it weren't so sad, is that there are women in the US who are attempting to curtail their own rights.

And your talking about the superiority of woman that is so supreme over a child that they are given the power to abort them. Yet if a man by assault causes this unborn child to die......he is a what?A Killer? How when it was only an attack on HER BODY as you proclaim.

Oic now it's a death of a sovereign person with rights.

Very illogical. Backward you say?

The state carries out death penalties to those who kill which i disagree with.

How much more should one disagree with the death penalty of the innocent?

Abolition of a woman's right to abortion, when and if she wants it, amounts to compulsory maternity: a form of rape by the State.

Seventy-seven percent of anti-abortion leaders are men. 100% of them will never be pregnant.

Funny, but I haven't read any posts calling for death to those that perform abortions nor those having them.

No, just numerous posts calling abortion murder, which would make abortion doctors mass-murderers. In some states that warrants the death penalty.
