hi everyone. in light of recent events in london,can anybody tell me the latin translation for "we are not afraid"?its been many years since i left school but seem to think "suum non timeus" might be close-ish!(or not!)many thanks

Welcome to A2K, paulieh....but......
just out of curiosity....why do you want it translated to Latin?

Maybe it would be more appropriate to translate it into Arabic.

Non Timemus!

Latin tends to prefer active verbs, specially when you have to declare a status.

Given the fact that almost all the terrorists were of Pakistani ancestry, they would not have understood Arabic. Urdu would be more appropriate.

As to Latin, what comes to my mind is: "Si necessarium erit pro patria nostra pugnare nullum hostem timebimus" (sorry if there are mistakes, I am quoting from memory and my Latin is long forgotten since my university times). - "If it turns necessary to fight for our homeland we won't be afraid of any enemy". This is what ancient Romans said before invading a neighbouring country that were to become a part of the empire.
