Ironically, Mom was never nicknamed Maddie until very recently by an
aide at the assisted living facility.
I love Evangeline, from Longfellow's work.
I like a lot of the Mary+ names ... Mary Alice ...
Maeve
Siobhan is good, but people come up with such odd pronounciations of that <she was a much-loved character on an old soap opera, so it was popular about 20-25 years ago>.
CONGRATULATIONS! Sorry I missed the big A2K announcement.
I found that with my daughter I gained weight all over. With my son it was all up front in a nice little ball. How are you carrying?
I LOVE Madeline Clarice.
Just remember if monogrammed sweaters come back in style, the wool ones from the early eighties, we don't want her embroidering anything bad across her chest. My poor sister had "SAG" on her sweaters!
That's my only hard and fast rule for choosing names.
Possibility: Shorten Abigail to "Abby."
Abby Clarice. She can use both names . . . (kind of like "Billy Joel" or "Betty Jean"). That way, the child will be blessed with carrying both of your favorites.
Three girls in my daughter's class (3rd grade) are namend Madeleine. There are some in Kindergarten, and the other
lower grades too. Very popular these days.
I like Emma.
Other considerations: Try not to give a child a name that is too difficult to spell; try not to give a child a name that rhymes with a derogatory word (kids can be cruel to each other).
Great site, Noddy.
You can find the 1000 most popular names for each year starting in 1880.
The year of my birth:
male female
1 Michael Mary

4 Robert Karen
5 John Patricia
6 William Debra
7 Mark Deborah
8 Richard Cynthia
9 Thomas Barbara
10 Steven Donna
I also see my sister's and brother's name on this list . . . I guess my parents weren't very imaginative. LOL
First off, congrats, Joa, I also missed the announcement.
Here are a few you don't see/hear too often, at least, I don't think you do --
Claudette
Amelia
Millicent
Paulette (my cousin's name)
Peri
Cara
May I ask, how many syllables are in your last name? That sometimes helps decide on the first-middle combo, you get into a flowing rhythm. My maiden name is 2 syllables long, my first is 2 and my middle is 1, so it's 2-1-2 and it flows nicely. Works okay with my married name (I hyphenated, so it's 2 more syllables at the end, now it's 2-1-4, a bit long so I rarely use the middle name now).
My paternal grandmother's name was very popular when she was born: Ethel
SODA !
If it was good enough for George, its good enough for my kid
Lots of good input!!
Our last name is 2 syllables. It's also a rare name that many have never heard, and doesn't really go well with a lot.
12 more days! hopefully our bean doesn't cross his/her legs when she checks for the sex!
I don't think I'm showing enough yet to tell you whether I'm a basketball or a watermelon shape.
When I went in at 30 weeks for ultrasound due to indications he was going to insist on coming early, the nurse laughed and said it must be a boy cause both hands were covering his privates. So, don't get discouraged if the hands are in the way.
She was right, as we found out about 10 days later.
Here's a cool site that graphs a name's popularity:

We have a military doctor, and for me...my next appt. , if she can't see anything, can be up to 6 wks later. That is forever for an eager person!!!
This will be the first appt. Mr. Joah goes to. Well, I hope. He still hasn't gotten it approved. It's hard to leave since he's presently in school (for military).
I hope he finds out where we're going to be stationed at the end of September!!! He was supposed to find out the first week in July. I'd like to be settled in and get to know my next doctor.
a funny way Mr wolf and I went through our name selection time was to watch the credit of movies and read off the first names.
TONS of people are named at the end of a movie .
You get a good variety
^^^
lol
that's exactly what I do!!!
ok, so then we WERE NOT so wierd in doing that.
But it does give a TON of ideas. There are alot of name variations out there. Julianne was one of the variations of Jillian we saw while doing just that. Almost took it too.
Foreign movies work wonders.
Dont be afraid to alter an existing name to create one you like.
The more original the name, the more original the person will be, I think.
Amelia is another one that's very popular these days (at least, sozlet knows three of 'em, around the same age.)
Debra, what's interesting about "imaginative" is that we chose a name we thought was totally out there and that I'd had in mind since high school, but it was on the top 20 list of baby names from the year she was born. (And nowhere close in years previous.) Don't know how that works. In the ether, or something...
I vote for Sozlet Clarice.
Sozlet isn't a name you hear everyday. Well, unless you're a Sozobe fan.
