Kingman sees my distress and shouts, "Paddle hard! Paddle hard!" The kayak heaves as I drive my paddle into swells, left, right, left, right, toward Lester Beach. "He was this close to capsizing," Kingman says to Liebl, making a pinching gesture while we munch on salami and cheese at the beach.
I ask him if we're going to round any more points.

1 heaves: What does this word mean here?

2 swells: What does this word mean here?

3 make a pinching gesture: What is the gesture like? What does it stand for?

4 round any more points: The article mentioned many points, one of them is Eagle point. So what is a point? And what does "round" mean? To kayaking hugging the outer profile(line) of the "Point"?

1.) It's unsteady, moving up and down. Think of someone gasping for breath, what his chest would look like.

2.) Swells are a kind of wave.

3.) When you hold your forefinger and thumb very close together (as if you were pinching something small). It means "He was VERY close to capsizing."

4.) A point is a land formation that sticks out into the water. "Round" means go around it, circumnavigate. It doesn't necessarily mean hugging it, though it does imply that the kayaker is somewhat close to the shore.
