Semicolon usage

I can't quite apply it to my everyday sentences. I read what my book has on it two times, but I just can't seem to get it. Could someone please explain to me the conventions of semicolon usage? Also, is there a site that offers many online quizzes for grammar and punctuation?

The short answer = Sentence; sentence. They should be closely related.

The details = http://chuma.cas.usf.edu/~olson/pms/semicolon.html

What a nice clear explanation! I know how to use semicolons; as a matter of fact I've been taken to task for using too many. I've bookmarked that page so I can explain why I've used one!
