Best way to push through a weight loss plateau?

Happy New Year everyone!

Does anyone know what's the best way to push through a weight loss plateau when you've been in a calorie deficit for a prolonged period of time? Also, how can you lose the last few extra pounds without further reducing your calorie intake if you're already eating, say 1200 calories a day?

I also exercise about 5 hours per week.

Someone I know who is in good physical shape suggested reducing carbs instead but he's male and I am female so I don't know if that makes any difference in terms of weight loss strategy?

@neater49,
Carbs might do it, so could, potentially, weight lifting. With weights, you may find that your numbers go up at first.

A diet and exercise website like Sparkpeople or Livestrong would be a good place to start.

I am not affiliated with either.

@neater49,
Hi,

yes I have experienced this several times. I do not know why the weight is stalling sometimes despite being on a calorie deficit.

However, with time the weight goes down. I also think, that in many cases the weight loss after the stalling period is faster than before.
In the graph below there is a so called fake weight loss plateau, but when analyzing the data thoroughly it turns out that there was no real stalling in weight loss.
