hi all,

What are the best methods to improve verbal communication?
I want to make a big leap and want to take my english to a new level as soon as possible.
I want to talk well in a group so that they listen with keen interest.

Suggestions and tips are needed badly.

Regards

Welcome to A2K, Srirams. Perhaps the best way to learn verbal communication is to read and decide what best impresses you; however, whatever your exchanges, they should be honest.

practicing with others who can speak English well. Reading where you can

hear yourself .

Listening, watching English programmes, movies, etc.

I think this helps a lot, but the key is always practicing.

and ofcourse welcome to A2K Smile

Thanks team for the suggestions.

Are there any good books that can pave the way for improvements?
I also feel that my memory power needs to increase.

Any tips on that.

I'd suggest too that you should avoid complicated grammatical constructions and important-sounding words. If in doubt, go for the simpler way of saying anything.

This holds good for both native and non-native speakers, and is especially important when speaking. If you write something, when people miss your meaning they can go back and read it again; if you speak to them, they don't have that luxury.

- and if you're new to speaking in public, remember to breathe steadily and not to talk too fast; nervousness often makes speakers gabble.

Hi Syntinen,

Thanks for that bit of suggestion.
I am currently in London where I see the English speak so well with whatever they speak. Their flow is so organised and polished.
I am just wondering if I can emulate their stlye (not accent though) of speaking.
Listening to them speak is a good experience on its own.
