Hi. I'm not an expert on business, law, government and politics. I know the FTC (Federal Trade Commission) regulates and enforces laws but do they make laws? I have an FTC-related question I want to ask and I want to make sure I have this straight.
Please help. Thank you.
Is COPPA a law the FTC made?
COPPA was written by and passed by Congress, signed into law by then President Clinton.
No. The legislative branch makes laws, as signed by the president or if a veto is overridden.
You don't need to be an expert in law to know this. You need to pass 6th grade social studies.
Or alternatively, watched Schoolhouse Rock in elementary school
I know that. COPPA is a law that's managed by the FTC.
Then if you already know the answer, why are you asking?
I was confused because according to read I read and saw about COPPA and the FTC online it seemed like the FTC creates their own laws. I thought COPPA was a law
You are contradicting yourself from the earlier comment.
