So I was in a very short relationship with a guy and then we became friends and recently we became very close, he said he loves me earlier does he mean it in a friendly love you way or love you love you way? :”D
Pay attention to what he does, not what he says.
You will get your answer that way.

I have never had a friend tell me he loved me. I would assume it was a more or less romantic sentiment.
