At the end of 19th century, due to war and corruption of the Qing Dynasty (大清王朝),local dark lords scrambled. Many Chinese people could not survive in their hometown. So men in the local places such as Xinhui (新会), etc, had to leave their family and go overseas to USA, Canada, Australia, etc, to make a living. They worked mainly in farms, mines, and railways. They earned money and remitted them back to China to raise their family. Some guys even arrange their family members to go overseas after they settled down. Their descendants now live in those countries. They are called “overseas Chinese”.
Those in America are called "American Chinese".
