All computers have math fonts - look there for the Greek letters.

For the ancient Greek texts in the original Greek check the Perseus database.

Link to Perseus database for Greek texts >
http://www.perseus.tufts.edu/cache/perscoll_Greco-Roman.html

> click on top left "configure display" to get Greek letters (UTF-8 works best on most browsers).

To test your character settings on the display, try this Perseus page from Euripides' play "Helen":

http://www.perseus.tufts.edu/cgi-bin/ptext?doc=Perseus%3Atext%3A1999.01.0099

You should see this:

[... My own native land, Sparta, is well known, and my father was Tyndareus; there's a story that Zeus flew to my mother, Leda, in the form of a swan fleeing a pursuing eagle and accomplished a union with this deception, if the story is true. I was named Helen..]

That was my translation; many other online translations are available on Perseus. Good luck!

i am from Sudan (east africa) and am not studying modern greek, just the classical. I have already taught myself latin and hope the skills i learnt there should help me learn greek too.

Xειρετε!

I have a question. I am currently reading Αναβασισ Κορου and have seen a word that I do not understand. Please read the following:

Τισσαφερνες διαβελλει τον Κυρον προς τον αδελφον ως επιβουλευοι αυτω

I do not understand this form of επιβουλευω (to plot or plan against). I cannot find it in any of my books. Is this a typo or is this a legitamate form? If it is legitimate, how may I translate it?

Χαριν εχω υμιν

Africanus
aka ο αιθιοπικος ανηρ

Χαιρετε!

I have found the answer to my question

επιβουλευοι is a contracted for of a Ο vowel verb

ο + ει = οι

επιβουλευ-ο-ει = επιβουλε-οι

I just joined a few days ago and was also wondering about the Greek character font. So here goes, μονόν λαβέ. Yeah that seems to work.

A correction. Your signature should be 'Ο Αιθίοψ ανήρ'. Αιθιοπικός is used for things.
