I had an appointment for my knee which I hurt on the 14th of may all set for June 3rd. I have been hobbling around waiting to see the doctor to see what's wrong with it and I get a call today telling me the doctor will be out of town and they were rescheduling me for the 20th!

ARGH!!!!!!!

No, I made an appointment with a different one for the 9th. It just pisses me off. I could have made the original appointment with this other bloke and probably been in by now but the first guy was closer to work. Now I have to miss half a day of work.

My daughter injured her knee playing soccer about a month ago. After two weeks of pain, I managed to get her in to see her doctor, who said just to rest it for another week. She did, and it still hurt and prevented her from playing, so I called the Dr. back. Out of the office. So, I left a message saying I wanted my daughter to see an orthopedic surgeon/sports medicine doctor. We were lucky that there was a cancellation and got in the same week, a month after the injury occurred. She's out for another month at least. Stretched (not torn) ACL.

Double suck because not only does it hurt, she was having her best season ever and so was the team. They still win without her but it sure looks different.

I complained about a problem with my skin to my doctor for a year and a half, trying a variety of different "remedys" before finally getting a referral to a dermatologist.

It took six weeks to get an appointment.

When I went in this morning she asked "Why did you wait so long to see anyone about this?"

Frikken doctors.

I've actually been very lucky with doctors as far as getting in right away. I do, however, have to badger them to get information. You have to ask at least 100 questions to make sure you understand your diagnosis and what you are suppose to do about it and how you got it and ..... enough to give me a headache.

My father-inlaw had an appointment for 10 AM this morning. I volunteered to drive him there and back. I fully expected to be able to read at least a small novel in the waiting room. They called his hame at precisely 10 AM. He was finished at 10:30 AM. Somehow, this doctor was not at least 2 hours off his schedule :-)

I know, our system of health security is not good at all, but when I get my knee hurt, I just go to the surgery, wait perhaps an hour or - most likely - two, and see the doctor.

(Since I don't like waiting, I wqould ask for an appointment the other day, though  )

Yeah, why don't you people go to the urgent care of
a hospital?

My little one got injured at a soccer game as well and
we just went to urgent care. She got x-rayed there and
another appointment with an orthopetic specialist 4 days
later.

I hate doctors too. I almost never go. Thankfully, now that I have insurance, we go to the emergency room for anything that looks like it needs fairly immediate attention. We are lucky to have a hospital nearby with a very good, efficient, emergency room.

I didn't mean the urgent care, CL, just meant my family doctor or the surgeon or the orthopaedist.

(Urgent cares are to much hopsital in my opinion Laughing )

re hating doctors: would be a bit inappropriate for me, since I grew up in a (hospital) doctor's family

You probably have a special situation Walter and I'm sure
your family doctor will see you on a Saturday/Sunday
as well.

For me, when I have an ache, I want immediate attention!

On weekends, we can go to or call one of the three doctors, who are on duty. (My father is dead since 9 years.)

About 8 years ago I had a wee biking accident -- headfirst into a rock, loss of consciousness, considerable pain and stiffness in neck -- and went to the local Urgent Care. No insurance at the time, no regular doctor, so there it was.

Doctor asked questions, conducted no examination (no reflexes tested, no touching of the neck, nothing) and sent me off with a recommendation to take some aspirin. No doubt he looked me over, thought I was drug seeking, and wanted to be rid of me -- or had determined that, lacking coverage, no money was to be got from me.

Six months later, an X-ray revealed a healed fracture in my second cervical vertebra. No major problems, but I would have dropped a couple hundred bucks on radiographs to determine if there was anything wrong. Bastids.

You were lucky patiodog.

Actually, we only have one hospital and ER in town that will take uninsured patients. Most urgent care units won't, unless you
pay up front.

The physician on duty did want to get rid of you.

Good news for me, now that I'm back among the ranks of the U.S. uninsured. Thanks a bunch. Wink

As I approach a milestone birthday, I am scheduling a checkup.
NOT looking forward to the poking, the prodding, the exploration.
Ack.
