Why would a man tell a woman to call but don't answer?

My friend always rather say call likes chat instead of text.
I usually call if I know he's not busy so I asked h when could I call He replies call now.So I'm at work I had to leave my desk to call but no answer.
I called 3 times so I text I called no answer.He replied in class now.
Why did he even say call .I called right away.
