Dorothy Densmore, 86 years old, 5 foot tall, 98 pounds, was arrested on Sunday for calling 911 to complain about non-delivery of pizza. She also complained that someone at the pizza shop called her a "crazy old coot."
When the officer arrived at her apartment to place her under arrest for misusing the emergency telephone system, she allegedly resisted by scratching, biting, and kicking.

Well, I for one, am glad this hardened criminal is now off the streets. I will sleep better tonight knowing that we are all safer with the likes of her behind bars.

She may need all three but there is a serious issue here, the reservation of 911 lines for real emergencies. The problem in Dorothy's case is the propensity of this country to criminalize every action that violates a norm, reasonable or not. It might have been (and probably) wold have been) just as effective to mail here a warning notice with a threat of a fine if the misuse continued.

Dorothy may or may not be living in Kansas.

I don't know whether she's reached the stage of "being a clear and present danger to herself or others", but putting Dorothy on the police blotter--in pencil--is one way to see that she gets help.

It seems that Dorothy called 911 twenty times in less than half an hour, though she'd been instructed to stop. That's why they sent the police to her house. What a nut!

It appears that North Carolina is an extremely tough-on-crime state. This doesn't look good for Dorothy:
