Was Rommel involved with Hitlers assasination attempt

Erwin Rommel was at the near end of the war, accused for being part of the plot to assassinate Hitler. Was he really part of the whole thing or was it just the rantings of the crazed torture victims whom were already caught.

On a completely unrelated matter . . .

Kingston is a pleasant town, and although the terrain is in many places low and swampy, i have ever enjoyed my visits there, and trips to the lake shore. You live in a very lovely locale.

Rommel knew of the plot - he had been party to numerous conversations regarding the attempt, but did not join the plotters. He did not support Hitler by any means, but was morally opposed to the idea of assassination. Severely injured in an automobile accident caused by a strafing Allied fighter plane on July 17, '44, Rommel was in hospital, and of no use whatsoever to the conspirators, when the attempt took place on July 20.

At the most, his complicity consisted of not interefering. His arrest on October 14 - and its attendant forced suicide - was for having not revealed the conspiracy to the authorities. For saving The Reich the embarrassment and inconvenience of trying one of its most revered, highly regarded General Officers, Rommel was accorded a full military funeral with all honors and his pension was awarded to his widow.

No mention of the July 20 plot was attached to his death at the time; the "Official Version" was that he had taken a sudden turn for the worse while convalescing and died bravely of the injuries he had suffered in July.

Thanks for the compliment on kingston, I must say it is one of the best places i've ever lived. Unfortunately my job doesn't keep me in one place for too long and now live in the bleak and depressing town of Edmonton, Alberta
