Lightwizard,
Of course, we'll see Daniel Day-Lewis again. He certainly has an engaging smile, doesn't he?

I look for Scorcese to get an apology Oscar, in the next year or two, and possibly Julianne Moore. Any other candidates? And you guys know there are precedents. I can think of Liz Taylor, and Whoopi Goldberg, off the top of my head.

Morgan Freeman and Sam Jackson, to name two. Al Pacino's Oscar for whoo-haa is legendary.

Morgan Freeman-Driving Miss Daisy
Sam Jackson- Pulp Fiction
They should have won for those two roles. Anything afterwards is an apology Oscar, in my book, like Pacino should have won for Godfather, Serpico, Dog Day Afternoon, maybe even Scarface but finally got it for Scent of a Woman, not nearly his strongest performance.
Denzel Washington got his last year for Training Day instead of for Malcolm X, the role he should have won for. Training Day provided him with a strong character, different than anything he's played before, but it was nothing in comparison to the all-encompassing role of Malcolm X.

What was the name of the movie in which Denzel Washington played an army officer court mashalled after Desert Storm? I loved him in that, a nuanced, strong and contemporary portrait. I felt that was Oscar worthy.
The bottom line, however, is that Denzel is a wonderful actor.

True,true.... eoe

I thought Meg Ryan made a valiant effort in "COF", but she's just to darn cute to pass as a tough combat soldier.

I agree about Meg Ryan, Booman, and that "Texas" accent didn't help either.

Ouch! Sad

Yeah that was all nerve, but I think she did better playing the alcoholic.("When A Man Loves A Woman") I admire her for taking chances, she could remain rich and Famous doing "cute" romantic comedies.
