Boomans Post Critique:

Greatest Shocks-tie,Polanski, Eminem
Most Entertaining Song-Catherine & the Queen's duet
Most heartwarming moments-tie,O'tooles acceptance speech, The Douglas' presentation banter.
...my final 2 Cents ......I was mildly surprised by the restraint shown war statements. Now I am not offended by these, whether pro, or con, I respect and encourage free speech. However, having said that, I could have done without all the statements. I have been watching many hours of CNN all week, and I had my remote 18 inches away, and could have switched over at any time to observe the war, but I was taking a break, thank you.

I had the mirror thought booman! I was surprised there weren't more anti-war statements, and can only remember Michael Moore's at this moment. Several people with smaller asides I guess, but they didn't bother me. Michael Moore's wasn't very well delivered, but I probably would've liked it had it not been the exact thing he said on the Independent Spirit Awards last night - "fictitious" this and that. It was funny the first time he said it.

Overall a much better show than I expected and Steve Martin did a great job under the circumstances. Wondering though what it was that was thrown out on the stage in the middle of his opening monologue. And was there really a duet with Queen and Zeta-Jones? Don't know how I missed that.

Beautiful O'Toole speech and Kirk and Michael were great - "speak distinctly." Really enjoyed Brody's win.

Yes, Adrien Brody and Polanski were big surprises!

Steve Martin said it was a cellphone, I think, that was thrown onstage. It certainly ruined his joke.

I got 4 right, too. (Do I get bonus points for saying that Nicole Kidman and Adrien Brody were my favorites?)

Watched the Oscars last night and thought it a strange show with some very strange choices.

Many women wore black gowns? Because of the war, perhaps? Also Meryl Streep had a beautiful necklace done a disservice by her dumb dress. The young women who work out too much look terrible. Steve Martin is just too above everyone to make a good host.

Thought they woould sop Scorcese with best director ... Roman Polanski was a complete surprise and one of the many awards given that did not match the audience applause during the reading of the names.

Almovadro (sp?) was a surprise for best original screenplay because the local critics have been down on the movie.

Several folks were visibly disappointed -- Michael Caine, John C. Reilly and Cathy Bates.
Under the old Oscar political machinations, the two Chicago supporting actresses should have cancelled each other out (although QL was better than CZ-J) and Julianne Moore's two category nomination would have cancelled her out in both, leaving Cathy Bates the compromise.
Frankly, I knew Chris Cooper would win months ago: just by the advertising campaign for Adaptation.
Haven't seen Gangs of NY but was certain from commentary that Daniel Day-Lewis would not win (do you know his sister wrote a book on baking pies?) although the man manages to look hot with a shaved head!! I think in real life tht Adrien Brody is probably a bit of an a$$ but he certainly enjoyed himself.

Perhaps the set decoration and costume design competitions are the toughest. Glad Frida won in set decor. Thought Salma Hayek beautiful and while she does seem like a sweet girl, she could have been a little stronger in her role.

And how about that kiss that Adrian Brody laid on Halle Berry! Wasn't that hilarious?

I don't know if we'll ever hear from Halle how good a kisser Adrian is, however!

I found myself agreeing with nearly every choice with one of the puzzles being "The Two Towers" not winning for Art Direction. Hollywood buzz is that the last film, "The Return of the King" is expected to bring in the big one.

I've not been convince that Scorcese can bring off a period drama as I found his "Age of Innocence" rather cloying and tedious. I still have not made it to the theater to see "Gangs," the only one on the list I haven't seen.

Helfino how many I got right (it doesn't matter, anyway). I just want to say -

Can someone please tell Geena Davis that too much conditioner makes your hair go flat? Susan Sarandon looked terrific! Geena looked odd and most decidedly un-glamorous.

Thought Brody was great, Moore was inappropriate and Kidman a little overly emotional. Most were pretty dignified and O'Toole was particularly touching. I thought giving the statuette to Eminem was an interesting move, but he'd also won the Grammy, so it wasn't as out there as it might appear on the surface.

I don't know if Halle's husband found that kiss so hilarious and she didn't look too pleased about it either. I have to wonder if Brody would have felt as free to do that if it had been Meryl Streep, Nicole Kidman or maybe Catherine Z-J on stage when he won. If it had been me, my husband would still be kicking his ass. Come on guys. How would you feel if he had slobbered on your wife like that? There's natural exuberance and then there's crosssing the line with another mans' wife.

I don't see much difference between Eminem and Ice Cube, Ice T or Flava Flav and don't understand why he's been so embraced. Other than the obvious.

Susan Sarandon did look beautiful, didn't she? But Sean Connery took my breath away. In ruffles, no less. What is it about that man???!!!! He just gets better and better.

Where was Elizabeth Taylor? Last night was supposed to be her swan song, her final goodbye to acting. I missed the first hour or so. Did she make an early appearance?

I read that Nick Cage was having trouble finding a date. So, was Jack Nicholson his date?

Steve Martin is a great host. His last line, thanking Steven Speilberg because it couldn't hurt was a hoot!! Great way to end a long night.

eoe, I saw the whole show, and Elizabeth Taylor did not make an appearance.

I wondered the same thing about Nicholson and Cage being each other's dates - lol!

The ironic thing about the cellphone....It was Steve's idea!

As for kissing Ms. Berry; for her and C Z-J, I'd risk the ass kicking. Twisted Evil ("Don't hit me , I was caught up in the moment!" Shocked )
