crowbars in space with a video camera? Yeah.. that should work great and only cost about 10 million per crowbar since each would have to have a heat shield to keep it from burning up on reentry. Not to mention all the weight of fuel and rocket motors to control it to get it to leave orbit when you need it.
Lets put it in orbit tomorrow rather than spending 10 years testing it before we find out it doesn't work.
The nice thing about the crowbars is that they are pretty aerodynamic; they only need a heat shield on the tip. It also doesn't take but one or two of them to sink the biggest ship or blow up a large tank, so overall they can be quite cost-effective over time as both offensive and defensive weapons.
I've had some ideas on how these can be used as bunker-busters as well; figure out the harmonics caused by dropping 6 or 8 of some really big ones in a hexagonal pattern, get the waves to hit at exactly the same time, and whatever is in the middle should leap about 50 feet in the air in the space of about 5 seconds.
I'm not for spreading war but seeing as the alternative they are looking for is mini-nukes, I'd much rather have a cleaner option if it does become neccessary.
