I don't know Jayme either, I'm afraid. However, I do have one question. How many different dialects are there in the French language? I love french and I am learning a bit here and there. Spanish and french are so much alike that it isn't too hard to learn (aside from the accent) and I have been quite nearly fluent for a while. Is there any one tip you can give me for learning the most beautiful language there is?
I think, one has to define 'dialect' at first
Looking at what is known in France as «langues régionales», we find
- Occitan,
- Breton,
- Catalan,
- Basque.
- Alsatien
and
- Corse.
Additional I would add here Englsih as the regional languiage in Saint-Martin and Flemish in the North/Pas de Calais.
All are 'own' languages, however, and not at all dialects.
Walter's French regional languages list is so accurate I cannot add anything to it.
Speaking about dialects, French "patois", we have a lot of them, from memory : Patois de Vendée, Normand, Berrichon, Ch'timi, Jurassien and so on...
Now, for the "French and Spanish are so much alike" I'm still guessing...
As well for "the most beautiful language there is"...?
