A Question For Our Historians

Historically how many of the "Great" civilizations have gone backward in this manner before, or as a part of, their collapse as a major power? I am just shocked at this and I thought I was shock proof. Shocked

Yes, that's horrendous. Got anything to say about your country besides opining that it sucks, it's wrong, and it's collapsing? Of course, you mean all this in a totally patriotic way.

Wow, what was that? Like 9 minutes to question the patriotism of someone that asks about redefining science and taking us back 100 years in education?

No need to look beyond the poster for an explanation to your surprise squinney. I will now read BVD's post to form my own opinion :-)

Hey Brandon who pissed in your cornflakes?

It was a serious question looking for an historical perspective.

How like a liberal to attack the poster without addressing the topic. All valid debate centers on an argument's merits, not on it's origin.

That's your opinion buddy, and if you don't like mine then don't read my posts. What are you, a pathological glutton for punishment or something? Laughing

Hey Brandon who pissed in your cornflakes?

Irrelevant.

Most of your serious comments and serious questions add up to America was wrong, America sucks, America is going down the drain - all said in the most patriotic way, of course.

Is this what modern liberalism has sunk to - responding to an idea by making fun of the poster's age? How sad.

You state your opinion. I'll state mine. I know you wish that weren't the setup.

Well, I read it and I read BVT's comment. I did not see the words sucks or wrong in his post.

I am personally undecided on my own opinion.

As for civilizations going backward <or collapsing>, Egyptian civilization, Roman Empire and the Inca's immediately come to mine. ;-)

My question was if major civilizations throughout history have moved past diety based to scientific based explanations and then done a 180 and began moving back towards diety based explanations for things they don't fully understand and was that a watershed event in the eventual collapse of them as major world powers?

Because regardless of the opinion of certain people, ALL major civilizations eventually fall. That's history.

If hysterics wish to make me out an anti american traitor because of that, I say let them sit around in their tinfoil hats.

Let me straighten you out big man...NONE of my posts are based on the philosophy America Sucks. America is my homeland. What sucks is the way it's being run into the ground by the current flock of sheep and shepherds, and I resent it. Big difference there Lambert.

If that is your question, specifically that, then my response would be that i know of no such instance. There are some interesting observations to make on the Pythagoreans, but i'd rather not go into that--and in any event, they were a part of no major civilization in the sense of a coherent national entity.

Is it common anywhere in history for major civilizations to go from deity based explanations to scientific and back to deity? I'm being careful here not to use the words progress or regress so no one has a stroke.

Specifically to that question? No, I know of none.
I may as well point out to you (before some hothead does) that it is deity rather than diety. Spelling, however, does not change the context of the post.
