The word is "Overstand"
The first time I saw this word it was used in a book called "The Holy Tablets" Here is how it was used:
Chapter One, Tablet 1:12
This book reads like a science fiction Bible
12 As a result, you have strayed from the original ways of the universe, and the spiritual path that lead you to your true destiny: Knowledge, wisdom, overstanding, and right reasoning called Nuwaubu.
I also saw it used by a man in a post.
From the use of the word I understand it to mean "understand".
I looked in several dictionaries and could not find anything on the word. Until I looked in Random House Dictionary. The meaning in this dictionary is: overstand=to stand over or by.
I even looked in the Oxford Dictionary of Word Histories, and found nothing.
Can someone help please?
Thank you,
AE
Thank you Francis.
So what was the original word? Overstand or understand?
AE
I think that it could be from the Greek meaning "epistasthai": "epi"= "over, near" and "histasthai" = "to stand". So, in this meaning, it would be "overstand" : understand or explain too much. Therefore connected to epistemology.
Thank you Francis.
Hmmm,
The Greek, I thought it was Arabic (just a guess).
