Doesn't look like this year's hurricane season thread has been officially opened. (Unless the author of said thread ... failed in appropriately tagging the thread.. despite the tagging system being around for countless years)

@tsarstepan,
Potential Tropical Storm Barry to Impact Gulf Coast With Severe Flooding, Surge, Wind Threats, Possibly as a Hurricane
Quote:
As far as the system's intensity forecast is concerned, Barry will be at least a tropical storm, and it's increasingly possible it will become a hurricane before its landfall Saturday.

@tsarstepan,
I can’t recall any members who live there. Not to say that there aren’t any or there aren’t some with family there.

The problem there now is that so far 16 inches of rain has fallen in the area recently. This makes a bad situation far worse as they’re predicting another 9 inches and high winds to occur.

@tsarstepan,
Selfish as I am, I’m watching from afar in our home NY’s mid-Hudson valley. We’re Snowbirds and our winter home is on FL west coast so we’re ok there too. It’s been a rainy and hot FL summer so the ground is pretty saturated.

@Ragman,
Of course with the weather forecast uncertainties for the next 24 to 48 hours, there is a distinct possibility that the west coast of Florida may get a whole lot of rain not to mention tropical force winds.

Hurricanes, one of many reasons I don't dwell in Florida or any spot directly on an ocean.

(and a few blocks up from the local apparently rising river)

Hopefully,it'll make a sharp turn and head out to sea.

Blizzards are nicer.

If anyone is interested seeing the current position of the storm:
http://www.star.nesdis.noaa.gov/GOES/conus_band.php?sat=G16&band=GEOCOLOR&length=96

This link should be good for future hurricanes as well.

To folks in the Gulf (of Mexico) region, how are you holding up there with Tropical storm Imelda?
News reports indicate severe flooding, some worse than hurricane Harvey had.

@Sturgis,
It's going on mainly to my east. We have had lots of rain in Tomball, but it's a full-on tragedy for many near us.
