London meeting 2005: part 2, Bad Waldliesborn

Reply Thu 12 May, 2005 06:18 am
The second part of the London gathering took place where I live, in Bad Waldliesborn, a spa, which is of the town of Lippstadt in Northrhine-Westphalia, Germany. (For longitude/latitude see below my avatar  )

Lippstadt

On the first day of that meeting, which started last Thursday and lasted until Tuesday this week (May 5 until May 10, 2005), urs and Clary arrived here.

Three women - so I got completely confused (and had better things to do than to photograph).

So: sorry, no pics from me for that day.

On Friday, urs, Clary and Ulla (my wife) discovered Lippstadt in rain, had some coffee in a nice Café and did .... whatever, while I got up at 4 am and drove to Amsterdam, meeting Diane, dys and c.i. .

They stayed about 50 meters to the right from here, with a nice view on the Amstel as well:

Diane, dys, c.i. and I drove through the Netherlands to Germany.

A few kilometers after having passed the border, we made a stop in café in the town of Rees.

That place was situated directly on the banks of the Rhine river

We noticed that a couple of marriages took place that day in Rees, one party using the nicer part of the restaurant/café.

So we took our seats and hot drinks in the pub

Driving further on, we reached the Ruhr district and the city of Oberhausen.

There, we stopped at the CentrO .

We had lunch at the Zeche Jacobi, a home brewery, pub and restaurant (sorry website in German only!), which is situated in the CentrO and has lots of original mining stuff from the former pit 'Ewald'

the loo had both a breathalizer and a condom machine, interesting. C.I. did not get lost on the way to the loo. (nor on the return)

Well, and you didn't fall in the brew kettles - although you had to pass them!

We drove further eastwards, reached finally Westphalia and my home county ('Kreis Soest').

The next stop was - for Kaffee und Kuchen (Coffee and Cake), which is a fine German tradition akin to the English "Teatime" - at the Möhnesee

[ Some info about 'Bäder' (plural of 'Bad') = spas in Germany]

Germany sounds like a good time.... drive a little, eat a little, drive a little, eat a little... That's my kind of place. Very Happy Very Happy

That last restaurant on the Möhne Lake looks especially nice.

Thanks for the pics & story, Walter. Keep 'em coming! Very impressive that Lippstadt was part of the original Hanseatic League.

Well, it wasn't just "driving a little" - there were some kilometers in between, and driving at 210km/h (130 miles/hour)

Great pictures Walter. In almost every picture you all
sit in either a restaurant or "Kaffeehaus" and eat Mr. Green

Piffka, next time, you'll go with me to Germany..... Wink

Wonderful photos, Walter, and thanks. I like the watercolor (?) hanging above Ulla on the wall.

Just a poster (August Macke, Terrace of a villa in St. Germain); we will change paintings on the wall as well.

(The photos on both sides are night/early morning shots I did in Paris.)

I couldn't stay long at home: had to drive (just 20 mins) to our local airport, where McTag arrived at 7 pm from Manchester.

Diane, dxs and c.i. went to their rooms in the hotel.

Later, Ulla went there as well, to guide all to the restaurant.

When McTag arrived, we had to wait some time, and McTag could refresh his German with the menu
