I'm having trouble translating the two words, beast and man into the various languages of the various tribes of the North Americas.
Could anyone help me with translating those two words?
(If beast isn't possible, then wild animal or just animal will do)
Thank you in advance for your help.
Bee or bea is a sort of generic meat animal in Navajo. Dine means The People (as, the Navajo Nation). Don't know if Dine (Dee NA for pronunciation) is used to mean 'man' or not.
Sorry, but it has to be wild animal or beast, as in wildlife.
But Dine, meaning The People is better than what I hoped for. Thank you for that one.
Wolf, have you visited the Omniglot website? If you check out their syllabaries (Cree, Ojibwe, Cherokee, among others) you'll find some basic information and a number of useful links.
I quickly perused the Cherokee to English link and noted that "beast" wasn't listed, though some specific animals (i.e.: bear) were.
No quick answers there in all likelihood, but perhaps you'll get lucky. If I had more time, I'd spend an hour or two reading. Very interesting.
Remember, there are hundreds of Native American languages still in use.
