Hell, I went to the afghani restaurant in cambridge after the bombing started there. I thought, I'll support the afghani-americans. They really didn't need my support. The place was packed. It's ALWAYS packed.

Turned on the local news a few minutes ago. It showed a garage door with GO BACK TO FRANCE spray painted on it. Sigh.

Littlek, it seems to me that Afghans that emigrated to the USA do not support Taliban and Al-Qaeda. If they did, they would rather stay in their homelans. Unlike Arabs, Pashtuns do not claim global domination and Islamization of all the world.

steissd - it doesn't matter that the afghani-americans did or didn't support the Taliban or Al-Qaeda. Being of afghani origin or descent made them targets in many communities.

Taliban, IMO, had merely a bad luck. Their leaders had no intentions to play war games with America. But they desperately needed money. Bin Laden gave them what they needed, but he was a professional troublemaker, and he brought troubles to his hosts as well.

Hatred to Afghans? I do not have such a feeling even after having war with them for four years. They are primitive and opportunistic like small kids, it is impossible to hate them.

Steissd - Beth is right. I agree with you that it shouldn't matter - that afghans here are here because they don't want to be there. But, people here will still target them for boycotts and violence. People here are boycotting french fries - that's got to give you some insight into the madness of americans.

"some genius decided to drop slices of it into a pot of boiling fat. The identity of this individual is unknown; the French claim it was one of their countrymen, while the Belgians fiercely hold that it was one of their own who first frenched a fry. Expert opinion on this matter is divided as well. Whatever the case, by the 1830's deep fried potatoes had become a popular taste sensation in both France and Belgium. It took another hundred years for them to become a fast-food staple in the United States. Although Thomas Jefferson is rumored to have served them in Monticello as early as 1802?-a daring thing to do at the time, since tubers were still believed to lead to death unless the poisons were boiled out of them?-it was American soldiers, having been stationed in France (or Belgium, depending on who you ask) during World War I who brought back a hunger for the fried potatoes they had eaten while overseas. Although today fries are commonly eaten in many other countries, they are only associated with the Gallic culture here in the U.S. "

A bit of fries history.

I wont reply in a similar tone, so:

I know a couple of Afghanian refugees and some others. None is primitive (more than the half [of the adult] have academic degrees) nor are they opportunistic [against the Soviet invasion: yes]).
