I am also facinated with lines of ants.
You know, if you rub your finger on the little 'pathway' they have created, they will NOT cross your finger print? they will actually create a new line around it..

Bella, i feel your pain... i've had 2 separate summertime mega-battles with ants, one in the kitchen, one in the bathroom.

the kitchen --
they got into the breadbox one summer.
we didn't use it that often.
one day i open it up... Shocked
there were thousands of the lill bastids -- on everything; in everything!
we threw out that breadbox with all its residents...

the bathroom --
unbeknownst to either of us the shower wall (which has a window) was made of cheap plasterboard, and it got 1 or 2 soakings per day for years.
one day we strted noticing an ant or 2 on the window sill.
no big deal -- they prolly crawled thru the screen... NOT!
a few days later (the 4th of july no less) i saw one crawl OUT OF a tiny crack in the paint.
damnit, i thought to myself, i gotta do it.
so i ripped open the wall... sure enough, another colony of the @#$%&'s.
i must've spent 3 or 4 hours killing ants.
i was determined to wipe them out single-handedly!!

soon thereafter, we had the shower renovated (which we'd been meaning to do eventually anyway...)

Has to do with the pheramone scent trail they leave. It's so they can send for everyone else to come and get the good eatin's or hang out at the cushy pad...

ACK!!! The problem is still present and now to add more frustration are the centipedes!!!! We've killed 4 centipedes in 7 days. So with the ants and the centipedes....me thinks we should seek a new home.

God, this is frustrating......

Maybe they're eating the ants?

Ants don't bother me so much (we get them about June for a week... then they go away)... but centipedes? Eeeyikes.

We were once waiting to be checked into a Nature Conservancy Inn in Arizona, sitting in a living room chatting with another guest. We all saw a fairly big centipede walk in the doorway and settle under the sofa. Uhmmm... just kept talking and sort of looking for it. Drew up our feet, y'know, kind of shuddered. The hostess came in a few minutes later and asked us how things were. Fine, we said.... then mentioned the centipede.

She went into double-quick time, practically flipped over the sofa, found the centipede, smashed it about ten times with her shoe & tossed it into the fireplace. The three of us sat there with our mouths hanging open. Apparently, she didn't care for the little buggers. Are they that dangerous?? (She asks, innocence brimming from life in a cold clime.)

They aren't dangerous but they are nasty.....and the ones that you find indoors are usually not the red ones...they are the furry looking kind.... <<shudder>>

Imagine waking up at 2 am, going to the bathroom, turning on the light and seeing this on your bedroom ceiling....Then after mustering the courage to squash and kill this one, encounter another one charging at you on the floor....Killed 2 alone last night.

I think they might eat ants, which would explain the sudden onset of CentipedeVille in my bedroom. However, the ants that have invaded my home live in the walls and under the carpet...places the centipede can't get so they'd only have a crack at the ants brave enough to venture out. Shocked Shocked I am all buggyy today...

Your bedroom? I don't know how you could sleep. I really don't.

This is what that long-dead centipede looked like and it was about this long, too.

<shudder, shudder>

Shocked

If THAT was in my house, damn trying to get the lease broken...I'd move out regardless of the cost. Holy moley....that is just NOT something I could live with, at all. They don't get that big here in Michigan. The red ones get maybe an inch to an inch and a half...the house centipedes are usually about an inch and a half. Ick either way.

<nodding> Yeah, in retrospect I think it had some kind of hypnotic power that kept us in stunned state, 'cause I can't imagine me staying in the same room with one just feet from me.

I'm glad your centipedes aren't that big, but even an inch and a half long is too big a centipede as far as I'm concerned. I have loads of sympathy for you and hope your landlord gets on the stick today.

Ants are horrible and annoying... those creepy crawlers are nightmarish.

I can't believe it. We are moving in 2 weeks.

They let us out.

And the neighbors said that the problem has been around for a while. And won't go away. No matter how many times they come to treat.

Well. Good thing you're getting out. This would be great news except you have to move. Do the neighbors have a problem with the ants & centipedes <shudder>, too?

Creepy.

Just think how awful it must be to own a place that is plagued like that. Arggggh.

Will it be hard to find someplace new?

I was also thinking about how awful it would be to own a building like that. I use to own a duplex and I can't imagine having to deal with that.

Bella
That's great that they let you guys out of your lease without a fight :-D
