@farmerman,
The teeny "secondary" polygons were formed after the big ones. You can see the "rings" of various freeze thaw cycles and the edges of the big polygons have been smooshed about by continued activity

The easiest way is just to specify the desired width in pixels within the img tag.
Code:[img width=900]http://thepaperwall.com/wallpapers/movies/big/big_7019e369ffcd7c752336b723d477e0f97128f04c.jpg [/img]

Evolution Baby!

That was a great movie...

Did you ever notice that all the great ones are a retelling of the story of Jesus?

In a recent debate, Neil deGrasse Tyson made some interesting comments. It sounds like he is open to the idea of ID as long as the designers are 'his kind of designers'. And he thinks he's the only one able to imagine that scenario.

Quote:
Tyson used a thought experiment to imagine a life-form that's as much smarter than us as we are than dogs, chimps, or other terrestrial mammals.

"What would we look like to them? We would be drooling, blithering idiots in their presence," he says.

"Whatever that being is, it very well might be able to create a simulation of a universe."

"And if that's the case, it is easy for me to imagine that everything in our lives is just the creation of some other entity for their entertainment," Tyson says. "I'm saying, the day we learn that it is true, I will be the only one in the room saying, I'm not surprised."

@Leadfoot,
It's still the same circular thought bubble. Unless there an infinite number of Matryoshka universes someone/something stands at the end of that chain and somehow came into existence without the help of designer.

@hingehead,
Of course it is. But it just goes to show that even 'scientists' like deGrasse are not comfortable at the gut level with the idea that life 'just happened'. They put on that authoritative voice and make statements in documentaries like the 'Cosmos' series that leave viewers with the impression that they are utterly certain that the cosmos and life are 'natural phenomenon'.

Usually they leave their doubts for quiet moments alone, but once in awhile they come out in public.

@Leadfoot,
Life IS ultimately natural. I'm fine with scientists having doubts - that's the whole point.

I find it odd that you admire this in them but studiously avoid in your own posts.

@Leadfoot,
Weve talked about panspermia as a "testable and falsifiable" option for life ascendant on our planet. I suppose thatw hen we speak of it in debate its a point of ridicule, but when deGrasse Tyson mentions it, we consider it as being "fair minded"

Oh well.

I'm not entirely sure you understood the point I was making.

But do you see you just showed that you are guilty of the same dogmatic attitude you are accusing me of. You are 'fine with scientists having doubts' but you show no sign of it yourself when you say 'Life IS ultimately natural'. You leave no room for doubt there, at least publicly.

I'm assuming you have not taken this metaphysical position:
Even if there is an Intelligent Designer, that too is part of nature and therefore - natural.

If that IS your position, peace.

That's not what I was saying. I was saying that it was inconsistent with his explicit and implicit position he expresses at other times.

@Leadfoot,
Tyson was taking the same position just about every scientist takes, "Show me evidence and I will be open to it."
