This is an old thread but it's nice to see so many people talking about my original home state.... Virginia.

I grew up near Lexington, Virginia on an old Southern plantation..... at least the remains of it!

I have not been back for quite a few years and each time I think of possibly moving back it snows! I have lived in the deep south for some time now. It would require a whole new wardrobe to move back to VA.

I miss the spring blossoms, dogwood, cherry blossoms, apple blossoms, etc......... I also miss fall colours. Most of all I miss the mountains. Florida is mostly flat.

Hi Magginkat et al!

I am still here in RI waiting for my house to be sold.
I have been back to Southwest VA for a third time a few weeks ago to do more exploring and planning.

I have already given my notice at work and am raring to go just as soon as i sell my house.

Hey Jjorge,
That was fast. I really didn't expect anyone to find this because the thread was old.

Funny too that I found an old PM from you in my mail box and could not answer it since, for some strange reason I don't seem to qualify to send PMs. Strange.

You had mentioned writing some notes for me & that you had reposted them......... I don't have a clue and you probably don't either by now. It was dated July 05!!

I love Virginia and sometimes I really want to go back, then I remember that there's almost no one that I know in that area any more. It's rather sad, torn between wanting to see those beautiful mountains and staying near my kids.

Florida is all they have ever known.

Well, Maggin, there are good and bad on both sides. I, of course, love Virginia, but driving to work on bad road warn't no fun. You're right about the changing seasons, however. I do miss that, especially Autumn.

Hi MK,

I replied quickly because I get email updates when someone (pretty infrequently) posts on this thread.

I checked my pm section and can't find a trace of the pm I sent you and, like you I don't have a clue what it was about.

in fact I don't think you and I have had many conversations, W/E perhaps of 2003 when I was an avid Deaniac and had many postings on the political threads.

I too have fallen in love with the Blue Ridge mountains (especially the New River Valley) I have a very nice (and diligent) young lady realtor there. I plan to go back for another trip next month to look at more properties.

I have been charmed by the people I've met in the NRV area, and, while I still love Providence and New England, I feel thrilled and privileged to be going there to live.

Who knows, maybe someday when I'm all settled in in VA I can sponsor an A2K gathering and entice some folks to come.

Letty, You're even deeper in Florida country than I am! Yes the autmn in Virginia is beautiful. So is the Springtime!

Jjorge, an A2K get together would be a great excuse to return to VA! Let me know if you do that one. And please make it during a warm season! I no longer own a heavy coat!

MK,

OK Smile

PS

I really like your signature line.

I don't know who Abbie Hoffman was talking to, but dubya comes to my mind.

Jjoge when I found the Abbie Hoffman quote, I was told that he said it to a judge who was sentencing him for one of his trespasses! The one and only person I have ever thought of in regard to that quote is Clueless George! It seemed to be written especially for him.

It goes perfectly with my own comment that "if George Bush is a Christian, I am the Virgin Mother".

Letty, I am in the 'crooked panhandle' of Florida near Pensacola.

We gained the name crooked panhandle after the results of the 2000 election were revealed and it was discovered that in my hometown alone, almost 5000 votes were harvested and discarded...never counted. They were legal votes too. Not surprisingly most of those votes were from predominately Black precincts.

Joe Scarborough, who is now on MSNBC as a talking head, was instrumental in this voter fraud in my opinion.

He kept the media busy looking for ONE non-existent, allegedly forged ballot for over two days. I believe that the Bushes saw that he was rewarded for his hand in the disappearing votes.
