Hi all

I've been given some German texts to read about the Hitler Jugend to help me with an essay i'm writing (I'm doing my A-levels) and for the most part i can understand it fine but since i don't know a lot about the HJ to start with it's quite hard to work out the bits that i don't already know. Can anybody help me out with the meaning of this:

Thanks in advance

I'll try:

"The HJ organisatorically was since May 1, 1931 under responsibility of the highest leadership department called "Sturmabteilung" (SA). After the ban of the SA from April 1932 - as SA-arrangement - the also forbidden HJ continued working as "National socialistic youth movement". With the appointment of Baldur von Schirach to the "Reichsjugendfuehrer" (superior
youth leader) and Administrator of the NSDAP, the HJ was
annexed. In 1940 when Schirach was appointed to "Reichsstatthalter" (Governor, I guess) and "Gauleiter" (head of Nazi district) in Vienna, the leadership of the HJ went
to Schirarch's substitute Arthur Axmann."

Perhaps, Bekaboo, you should go the easier way and read about the HJ in English? (These sites from 'axis history' are quite extensive.)

I don't know how you structured your essay, but why not try with the other youth organisations?

Thanks, CJ for the translation, btw!!!
