Morning, (sip'g coffee)

All clicked.

Thanks Merry Andrew.

wayfarer,
I think ehBeth refers to her parents as the hamburgers because they are originally from the Hamburg, Germany area. I know her father appears here on the A2K forum occasionally and his online name is hamburger. He sounds like a very nice intelligent gentleman possessed of a great sense of humor.

If I'm incorrect with any of the above - ehBeth is going to stick me really hard with her pointy stick.

Danon's got it 100% correct - except that I didn't give my dad the hamburger tag - that is his own creation!

Oooooh, Merry Andrew,

You should visit Fairbanks, AK - just a few miles West of there is a place where the real Service tales began - or so they say..........

I'm kidding about that of course.

Quote
"Malamute Saloon
Rowdy saloons that are throwbacks from the mining days are this area's specialty. The Malamute Saloon, 7mi west of Fairbanks in Ester, offers honky-tonk music, skits, vaudeville and a ritual reading of Robert Service poetry. The bar is a classic, and the show is perhaps one of the best locally produced acts in Alaska. They'll have you laughing in the sawdust by the end of the evening. There's free bus transportation from Fairbanks that stops at major hotels, including the Bridgewater. Or you can make it an evening by booking a room or a tent site at Ester Gold Camp."

I loved Alaska - having lived there for three years. My son was born in Fairbanks (actually at Ft. Wainwright) a suburb. It was quite an adventure.

I visited the original Malamute Saloon and sat through the theatrics. That's where I first became acquainted with the works of Robert Service.

It was quite entertaining - and is still, 35 yrs later a really good memory.

Look like good books, Dan. My facorite Service poem, of curse, is "The Cremation of Sam McGee." I remember trying to learn it by heart when I was about 16 or thereabouts. But I've forgotten most of the verbatim lyrics now. The substance still stays with one, though.

Yes, and a good one indeed
The message to heed.
A promise made
Is a debt unpaid........

"There are strange things done in the midnight sun
By the men who moil for gold;
The Arctic trails have their secret tales
That would make your blood run cold;
The Northern Lights have seen queer sights,
But the queerest they ever did see
Was that night on the marge of Lake Lebarge
I cremated Sam McGee."

Good choice as favorite - but, all Service's work is good.

A right and true trick
Was the moment I made a click.

To quote Service at the front of his book "The Complete Poems of Robert Service"

"I have no doubt at all the Devil grins,
As seas of ink I spatter.
Ye gods, forgive my 'literary' sins -
The other kind don't matter."
