I was thinking of getting a tattoo that means "I am the master of life"
I came up with:
"EGO DOMINUS VITAE"

Is there any error in this?

@Latintattin,
Tattoos and stupidity tend to have a close relationship.

@Latintattin,
Any inkling of doxa , episteme, or gnosis?

Sweet mastery of life at last I've found thee.

@Latintattin,
I would recommend
DOMINUS VITAE SUM
SUM -> I am

Why would you get a tattoo declaring your mastery of life in a dead language?

@Latintattin,
I think it should be ego sum dominus vitae, but I don't speak latin.

How many people will?

So close enough.

@fresco,
The Maoris, in particular, would beg to differ.

@Finn dAbuzz,
Maoris have historical tribal traditions which transcend ephemeral fashion gestures later to be regretted.

I would accept Latin on a face tattoo, because face tattoos are inarguably cool.

I believe any other type of tattoo should be in a language that the wearer speaks fluently.

Good grief! This may be the longest Latin Forum thread in years.

You're not wrong.

Ego is implicit in sum so not usually expressed and in Latin usage the verb is most
often at the end of the sentence.

But your translation is perfectly correct.

Ha ha well I am from New England.

I just don't like to do anything permanent to my body (unless it is for medical reasons)-- 10, 20, 30 or more years from now you may decided you do not like.

I have a couple extra piercings that I have since closed up. But that isn't permanent and out there like if I decided to do a tattoo when I was 20.

Tattoos have become a recent fad. (not that people were not getting tattoos before - but almost everyone is getting them now). I just wonder if some people getting them are jumping on the bandwagon because "everyone is doing it." A little different to get an "god-awful" 70s big hair or dying your hair blue or pink....it is not permanent.

The one thing I can say about the poster - at least he is ensuring that he gets the quote right. Would be really bad if it ended up saying "I am the master of my domain"

@Linkat,
I almost got a tattoo. I offered to buy my son a tattoo for his birthday. My son had thought about it for a long time and the design was something that was both artistic, and meaningful to who he is as a person.

So we went to a tattoo parlor in Somerville that was recommended by a friend. There was a collection of characters that you might expect to see in a movie depiction of a tattoo parlor. The trucker guy thought I was funny and out of place (I am white and nerdy... my son is neither). So the trucker, the tattoo artist and a collection of other assorted patrons start pushing me to get a tattoo as well and arguing about what would be best for me....

I almost walked out with a Linux penguin on my shoulder... it would have been awsome.
