New Haven,
It is a smart thing to desire to lower cholesterol, and reduce weight. Our friends and acquaintances get their 'names' in the paper in the (undesirable to me column) obits, too frequently-
or they are losing all their retirement monies to the hospitals for EXPENSIVE heart surgeries.
I really liked this article, and I do not think 'adults' are ever too young of an adult, to begin to take notice of what they consume and how much excess weight it is "piling on".
I also have noted in my own meal planning, one does not have to depend so heavily on "metamusil" type fillers, if they consume things like grapes, apples and applesauce, prunes, plums and LOTS of leafy green vegetables.
I have shared this with friends and they believe with me, you can have a well rounded diet, ONLY if you plan it, and STICK to it, and shun the 'chips'/ 'dips', and candies. (and a few other temptations )
The critical thing seems to be the fiber in your diet. You want to keep it high enough to bind to all the cholesterol in your blood.
I think that's about 25 grams of fiber per day.
