In England and Wales, a solicitor is a specific type of lawyer. A solicitor gives legal advice, draws up legal documents and so on, but does not argue cases in the law courts.

The kind of lawyer who defends or prosecutes cases in court (the kind that wears white horsehair wigs and gowns) is called a barrister.

Scotland has a different legal system and lawyers have different titles there.

Gross domestic product = GDP

It's the total amount (financial) of goods and services produced within a country in (usually) a year.

GNP= Gross National Product

Total amount of goods and services produced by a country's population.

Two different things of course. The person inquiring might like to be aware of that.
