I've had this bulge in my abdomen just below the sternum and had it looked at. Doc said don't worry unless it starts to bother you, it's just an epigastric hernia. A WHAT Question I said. He didnt give much explanation, just referred me to a surgeon. Saw the surgeon today and explained the proceedure somewhat. "I'm going to be off work for HOW LONG Question " I said. 6 to 8 weeks Exclamation Question Exclamation Question Then Idea I'll ask around on A2K and see if anyone else out there knows about this. I did some research on the North Penn Hernia institute. Got some good info (more than what the Doc told me. Any feed back about this would be appreciated. Thanks, Jack

Don't have any personal experience with this condition, but I found what is a good site, with a thorough explanation:

Quote:
In general, all hernias should be repaired unless severe pre-existing medical conditions make surgery unsafe. The possible exception to this is a hernia with a large opening and a relatively small sac. Trusses and surgical belts or bindings may be helpful in holding back the protrusion of selected hernias when surgery is not possible or delayed.
