Husker -- have you ever heard of the Glycemic Index? I was diagnosed as prediabetic last year, but got ahold of it right away and have been fine since. I went on the South Beach diet, which is based on the G.I. I'm still following a lot of their principles. I had blood drawn today, and I'll find out my current numbers Friday.

Not that you need to diet, but if you're prediabetic (or even suspect you might be) you need to become familiar with the Glycemic Index. Basically, it tells you which foods cause a spike in your blood sugar and which ones don't. (It's not what's IN the food, it's what it DOES in your system, get it?) For instance, bananas and pineapple are two of the very highest fruits on the G.I. If you had chosen strawberries or canteloupe or apples (or lots of other fruits), it wouldn't affect your blood glucose level nearly as much.

I temporarily gave my copy of the Glycemic Index to a friend who also has just been diagnosed as prediabetic. (Must be an epidemic!) But I'll tell you whatever I remember if you ask. Or I'll bet you can even find the Index online somewhere if you Google it.

For what it's worth, there is a home a1c kit on the market, at about $20.00 at Walgreens. I won't promise it's as good as a lab, but the packaging does.

As PO'd as I am- right now once I get over the PO - it'll be behavior modification on the diet - low carb and low salt and exercise as soon as possible.

I'm willing to bet ALOT they screwed up the test - I cannot tell you how many times I've been checked and all been negative for diabetes or even pre.

At the risk of sounding stupid, Husker...can't you just deal with one problem at a time?!

Fight the recurring infection! Worry about the rest of it later!

Sheesh.....(mumbling).....doctors.......
