@edgarblythe,
Where’s Vonnegut when you really need him?
@edgarblythe,
Might be a Bradbury joint, tho.

...like sitting in on a Trump cabinet meeting.
I don't write much about Trump because he thrives on any kind of publicity and he still gets it 24 hrs per day, both from the adoring and the traumatized, all for free. My fondest wish is that another person than he gets nominated by Republicans next time around.
“A true revolution of values will soon cause us to question the fairness and justice of many of our past and present policies. On the one hand we are called to play the good Samaritan on life’s roadside; but that will be only an initial act. One day we must come to see that the whole Jericho road must be transformed so that men and women will not be constantly beaten and robbed as they make their journey on life’s highway.
True compassion is more than flinging a coin to a beggar; it is not haphazard and superficial. It comes to see that an edifice which produces beggars needs restructuring. A true revolution of values will soon look uneasily on the glaring contrast of poverty and wealth.
With righteous indignation, it will look across the seas and see individual capitalists of the West investing huge sums of money in Asia, Africa and South America, only to take the profits out with no concern for the social betterment of the countries, and say: “This is not just.” It will look at our alliance with the landed gentry of Latin America and say: “This is not just.” The Western arrogance of feeling that it has everything to teach others and nothing to learn from them is not just.
A true revolution of values will lay hands on the world order and say of war: “This way of settling differences is not just.” This business of burning human beings with napalm, of filling our nation’s homes with orphans and widows, of injecting poisonous drugs of hate into veins of people normally humane, of sending men home from dark and bloody battlefields physically handicapped and psychologically deranged, cannot be reconciled with wisdom, justice and love.
A nation that continues year after year to spend more money on military defense than on programs of social uplift is approaching spiritual death.”

I wonder how long it will take for everybody to notice that everything that happens somehow winds up making us poorer and the ruling class richer
@edgarblythe,
Yep. That two year lockdown of the low end economy was genius.
The government/military/industrial complex is always ‘essential'. Can’t touch that.
@edgarblythe,
The manipulation is so effective that the sheep believe academics like Chomski are the elite, and not wealthy people like the Koch brothers.
The conspiracy for enslaving us goes much higher than the elites.
@edgarblythe,
Doing what you're told and not questioning the wisdom of it has become the new and better way to be "strong."
So many headlines not making it clear that no Americans were in danger.

As many as 12 missiles have been fired towards the US consulate in Iraq’s Erbil. A US official said there was no impact at the consulate, which is currently unoccupied. The Pentagon says the missiles were fired over the border from Iran.
@edgarblythe,
That was the quote from the consulate spokesperson. There was one civilan injured but no casualties. That was the information given in the BBC news article before any mention of American lives.
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard are claiming responsibility, it's in response to the killing of Iranian personnel in Syria by Israel.
Although the strike was on the American Consulate the Iranians are claiming the target was an Israeli "strategic centre."
@izzythepush,
A few things I've read make me think they were striking at Israel. Israel is constantly trying to have a war start and drag in the Americans.
@edgarblythe,
Israel and Iran go back a long way, Israel was instrumental in helping the Shah's secret police round up dissenters.
They have an emnity all of their own, distinct from the Israel Palestine conflict.
@izzythepush,
I hope Biden will continue negotiations. I don't have much faith in his statesmanship, but as long as they are talking they aren't shooting.
edit: not in a war
Saudis just executed a lot of people. I wonder if they used swords or knives? I don't need to know. I wonder if any of them deserved to be killed.
