Ironic. If you recall, national prognostication had the Lakers winning the finals in five. Now, you say in retrospect, given the Pistons handed the Lakers their own asses, the Lakers were "banged up and falling apart."
Hell, you're not going to get an argument from me that the Lakers were a JOKE - the Finals were a miracle shot away from being a sweep - but be for real: you make this comment as if the Lakers - the team that went through Minnesota and San Antonio, the team that came out of the
big, bad West - were, having made the finals, all of a sudden some patsy that had no chance to beat the starless squad from the "weak" East. Talk about losing one's grip on reality.
My point about Shaq is that what's different about the Heat? Wade and Shaq or Kobe and Shaq? Are you really saying the Lakers last season (again, the team that emerged from the "highly superior" Western Conference) are in some way greatly inferior to this year's Miami Heat? That's precisely the logic I call into question - i.e.
how so?
In all seriousness - that is, "trash talk" aside - I'm just saying I don't see it. Yeah the Heat "can" beat the Pistons; hell, so "can" the Sixers - anything can happen in sports. But this national attitude, whereby all I'm hearing about is how the Heat are the team to beat just has an air of simplicity: "Shaq=Title."
Your suggestion he's "the most dominant player in the game" I think is nicely refuted by Omar's above link. What is he so dominant at? Statistically, he's no better than the rest of the freaks of the league: Iverson, Bryant, Garnett, James, Duncan, et al.
If anything, Shaq is the most overrated player in league history. Sure, he's a superstar - but does he really live up to his 320 pound, 7-1 frame? He puts up numbers that are comparable to just about every other superstar in the league. 28 points, 12 boards, 3 assists, and 2 blocks. Isn't that about what
Webber did today in a
21-point loss? Oh, ****, the Pistons must be shaking in their boots; give Miami the title!
