Hi,
We need to find out the names of the kings and queens of Spain and Portugal during the period from 1484-1497. If there were more than one reigning king and queen, we need to know all their names, during this period of time.
Thanks so much. We've been finding different information and it's becoming confusing. One name we did find for the King of Spain during this time was King Phillip II. Is this correct? And if so, was there more than one reigning king of Spain during this time or just King Phillip II. The remaining names we were not able to find.
Thanks

Portugal :

John II (João II) 1481-1495
Manuel I - 1495-1521

Spain :

Castilla y Leon : Isabel I 1474-1504

Valencia : Fernando II 1479-1516

Aragon : Fernando II 1479-1516

Navarra : Juan III 1483-1512, Catalina 1483-1512

King Felipe II 1556-1598 reigned after Spain unification.

It was the marriage of Ferdinand (Fernando) of Aragon and Valencia to Isabella of Castille and Leon that united Spain into one kingdom, except for the southern part which was still a Moorish (Muslim) realm. When the Spanish Christian armies finally defeated the Moors in 1492, Spain was truly united and acquired its present-day boundaries. That's why, finally, the Spanish monarchs could afford to sit back and look to backing a Genoese adventurer named Cristobal Colon (Christopher Columbus in English) in his quest for a westward route to the riches of the Orient.

As Francis has said, Felipe (Philip II), ruled much later.

Philip II united Las Espanas with Portugal, though, under one crown ... with the always helpful hand of the Duke of Alba.

Not that anybody is likely to care, but the most thorough history of Spain in the New World and the Spanish Monarchy in the 15th, 16th and 17th centuries is by the American historian William Prescott . . .

However, as it runs to 22 volumes (Phillip II requires four for his reign alone), as i said, no one is likely to care . . .
