What has that got to do with anything? If you go by that twisted logic, (almost as twisted as the prose,) then we should have joined forces with the Kaiser, and then with Hitler, because Prussia saved Wellington at the Battle of Waterloo.

@izzythepush,
What that had to do with anything?

That we had a very long history of supporting your island nation with our wealth and the our blood is beside the point?

That we even offer support when you sail into our back yard and took the Falklands inlands back by force of arms?

Off hand I do not know of any other European power that we would not had forbidden from taking any such actions and back up our wishes with a carrier battle group.

I remember at the time trying to explain to my Latin co-workers why we was allowing the UK to used such force in the Western Hemisphere and even giving them support in doing so.

@BillRM,
That doesn't mean we should become the 51st State, and a glorified theme park. We could do with a few less McDonalds and a few more French bakeries. We're too much like America as it is.

Europeans don't attack our Health Care System, Our gun laws and our benefits system.

Did you tell them that stopping Mrs Thatcher was like stopping a runaway coal train with your bare hands.

It's a pity you pulled the plug on the Suez operation. Look what we got from your policies and it ain't over yet.

You was the one floating that idea of a 51 state not me however you are still likely to be far better off depending on the US goodwill and tying your fate with ours then with the goodwill of your fellows European powers.

The US has no goodwill. It has interests.

One US carrier battle group blocking your way would had been plenty to stop Mrs Thatcher and the royal navel with it two small jump carriers.

Not that your ships would had sail if we had forbidden them to do so as Thatcher was not insane.

You and French got together behind the US back and decided try their hands at once more playing big powers games.

I often had wonder what was in that tea or room temperature beer your leaders at the time was drinking that gave them the idea that President Eisenhower would not put a stop to such actions.

Rubbish. We're too supine as it is. We should never have got involved in Iraq, Blair went against the will of the people. Closer integration with Europe never caused anything like 7/7.

I suggest to you that our good will is likely to be far stronger then the regards and good will of your fellow European powers and our join interests for that matter are likely to be far more in alignment then the rest of the EU will be with your.

Well that is the reason we are allies we cover either other backs and somehow I do not see Germany or France covering your rear ends in a time of needs be that need military or finance in nature.

@izzythepush,
You got that right~! The US should never have gotten involved in Iraq; Bush and his administration lied to congress to get their vote for war. We ended up killing tens of thousands of innocent people in Iraq. Why it took so long for Obama to return our troops home from that front is another weakness in his administration. Not only can we afford the cost of the wars, but we're cutting funding for our own people to maintain those ridiculous wars. Over 15 million Americans don't have jobs.

@spendius,
I think that if we had decided that we needed to keep you out of the Western Hemisphere and you was nuts enough to challenge us we would have put your whole task force if need be on the bottom of the ocean.

We would not had been happy about doing so any more then in WW2 you guys was over joy in putting most of the French fleet on the bottom of their own harbor.

Oh, I love on the one hand you claimed that we had no special feelings toward your nation and on the other hand we would never never fire on your ships.

You kind of wish to have it both ways.

Hell! Bush went against the will of the majority of U.S. citizens. If we had been asked do you want war no one would have said yes. We were led down the path of political lies!!!

Who the hell wants the UK as the 51st state?

That's all we need, more red ink.

The last time I checked McDonalds doesn't have a military operation that forces cities and towns around the world to build their fast food joints.

It says a lot more about the UK than it does America that you chose to import McDonalds over French Bakeries.

If you don't want to buy the good stuff we have to offer, we'll still sell you the crap. Whatever your prefer.
