Japan has the world’s third-largest gross domestic product and generates large domestic and export demand for the goods and services it produces.

If we were to compare it to the size of other countries I wonder what place it might rank.

@reasoning logic,
Like I said, your assertion is illogical... minimal cost is not free as you pronounced it was.

I did not think we were talking about richest country in the world per capita but rather largest gross domestic product but I guess I could be wrong.

@H2O MAN,
I work for a company that pays state sales tax. The accounting is not that large of a burden .

@realjohnboy,
He needs new programmers. That statement is pure bs. Most business programs already handle sales tax.

@IRFRANK,
Sales tax computation is a very easy formula. All a business has to do is program what is taxable and what is nontaxable. Compute the tax rate on the taxable sales. It doesn't matter how much was collected.

Some retailers have "tax free" sales. They just reduce their gross by the amount of the sales tax payable when taxes are not collected.

@cicerone imposter,
Most sales tax is state. My point is exaggerating the computer cost is BS. I doubt the $$ figure he quoted made it onto his programmers paychecks.

@IRFRANK,
I know, and some states don't even have state sales tax. According to a quick search, only five states don't have a sales tax.
Alaska
Delaware
Montana
New Hampshire
Oregon

I think you gun nuts are taking care of the educational costs by making it possible for people to buy guns and dischargeing them in schools.

I own two companies that pay state sales tax and can tell you that the additional
paperwork and hours needed to comply with this new tax will be a large burden.

@H2O MAN,
You're not doing your bookkeeping properly. Mr. Green
It's not that much of a hassle if you know what you are doing.
I have developed my own bookkeeping system for private owners of retail shops as a consultant (and comptroller for one), and it's almost automatic about all forms tax liabilities.

Are you sharing this system you've developed freely with all business owners?

@H2O MAN,
No. I'm now retired - since 1998, and do not even volunteer to do work for my own nephew on his investment portfolio. I want no more work "responsibilities." Got rid of income property when I retired, because it was "work." Mr. Green
On the other hand, my brother, an ophthalmologist still works; he loves working. My wife is retired, but volunteers at the hospital and public library.

Me; I love retirement and traveling.

Hire a good accountant to design a system for you; quit wasting valuable time!

And there's the additional burden & cost I mentioned.

Politicians should think things through before wasting out time like this.

@H2O MAN,
What I'm saying is, it shouldn't be a "burden." It's about process and efficiency.
