@hawkeye10,
Wrong again, kimo sabe. There was planning in our financial security called "saving 15 to 20% of our income when we worked."

Many who have worked, studied, and went into the right professions always do well in any developed country. I'll also admit that "luck" played some part of my success of having worked in management positions for 90% of my working career. I had enough wherewithall to do consulting work during my working years that was very lucrative, and allowed me to buy income property and a partnership in a condo at Incline Village.

It also took hard work - believe it not. Mr. Green

The lucky ones always claim that. Mr Obarmy rubbished the idea. And quite correctly. The builders of the pyramids worked hard.

There are a lot of people who work 14 hours a day 7 days a week for $2 a day...CI seems to not understand that he lucked out to follow the WW2 generation in America and to be part of a generation that is so low on morals that they (we) are willing to **** over our kids and grandkids.

@hawkeye10,
You really don't know the English language very well, do you? I wrote that "luck" played a part in what I was able to accomplish.

You come up with strange assumptions, because you don't know me. When we were kids, we were very poor, and all my siblings and I had to work on farms to make money during the summer months. We harvested all manners of fruits and vegetables - back breaking work.

After I graduated from college and started working, I worked longer and produced more than others in the same company. That's the reason I was rewarded with many pay increases and promotions.

When I was in the USAF, I was awarded Airman for six months at Walker AFB.

No stranger to hard work.

so what, my point is that hard work only occasionally leads to the orgy of consumption which you enjoy which as caused you to not understand America of 2013. for most through history and increasingly most americans now hard work does not, which is why Bill Clinton said:

Quote:
I was raised to believe its that the American Dream was built on rewarding hard work. But we have seen the folks in Washington turn the American ethic on its head. For too long, those who play by the rules and keep the faith have gotten the shaft, and those who cut corners and cut deals have been rewarded. People are working harder than ever, spending less time with their children, working nights and weekends at their jobs instead of gong to PTA and Little League or Scouts, and their incomes are still going down. Their taxes are going up, and the costs of health care, housing and education are going through the roof. Meanwhile, more and more of our best people are falling into poverty -- even when they work forty hours a week.

@hawkeye10,
What are you trying to say? That I lived during the best generation in the US was pure luck that our education and opportunities were some of the best the world offered.

I will not apologize for the opportunites provided, and the hard work I put into making a good living.

If you're toughing it out, it's your own fault. Nobody gave me anything on a silver spoon. We worked for it.

@hawkeye10,
Insider trading is legal in congress, Hawk.

Criminals always gravitate towards the easiest money.

Quote:
You cannot read the description of the personal stock trading allegedly conducted by Rep. Spencer Bachus and other members of Congress during the financial crisis and conclude anything other than the following:

Our government is completely corrupt.

Yes, this behavior may be technically legal, because of an absurd loophole that makes insider-trading rules not apply to Congress.

Yes, this behavior may be widespread on Capitol Hill.

But there is no universe in which a reasonable person would consider this behavior ethical or okay. And for the 300+ million Americans who aren't members of Congress, it would be just plain illegal

Many members of Congress seem guilty here, including John Kerry, Dick Durbin, and Jim Moran. But Spencer Bachus takes the cake.

Your claim that "I don't understand America" needs to be proven. You can't.

says the guy who lives in the silicone valley bubble who spends a tenth of the year polluting the planet while sucking up carbon on joy rides. you remind me of another fella:

Quote:
As President Bush travels the country in search of re-election, he seems unable to escape a central problem: This career politician, who has lived the cloistered life of a top Washington bureaucrat for decades, is having trouble presenting himself to the electorate as a man in touch with middle-class life.

Today, for instance, he emerged from 11 years in Washington's choicest executive mansions to confront the modern supermarket.

Visiting the exhibition hall of the National Grocers Association convention here, Mr. Bush lingered at the mock-up of a checkout lane. He signed his name on an electronic pad used to detect check forgeries.

"If some guy came in and spelled George Bush differently, could you catch it?" the President asked. "Yes," he was told, and he shook his head in wonder.

Then he grabbed a quart of milk, a light bulb and a bag of candy and ran them over an electronic scanner. The look of wonder flickered across his face again as he saw the item and price registered on the cash register screen.

"This is for checking out?" asked Mr. Bush. "I just took a tour through the exhibits here," he told the grocers later. "Amazed by some of the technology.

@hawkeye10,
FYI, it was GW Bush that trashed the world's economy, and that resulted in the Great Recession when the baby-boomers were getting ready for their retirement. Instead, they lost 40% of their retirement savings, many lost their jobs, and the value of their homes were less than their mortgage.

Many baby-boomers are still struggling because of GW Bush.

I lived through the same period, but was prepared than most to have invested in conservative funds and bonds. When the market hit 14000, I sold 37%, then bought it back when it hit 8500.

It's called "understanding macro-economics" and being lucky to have guessed right.

Yes, I spend a great deal of my money on world travel, because I enjoy it and can afford it.

Our children will inherit enough without having to scrimp while I'm still alive.

All you do is complain about other people's success. You're a ******* bore.

And you sold gold at £1495. So much for understanding macro-economics. Did you inform A2K of selling the Dow at 14,000?

@H2O MAN,
Hey, squirt, where did you get the idea that Obama is responsible for the high unemployment rate when the GOP didn't approve legislation that would have helped small businesses? The GOP is also responsible for cutting defense spending by billions to reduce our deficit that increased the unemployment "rate."
Quote:
By SCOTT WONG | 7/12/12 4:00 PM EDT Updated: 7/13/12 8:41 AM EDT

Senators rejected dueling Democratic and Republican small-business tax cut plans on Thursday, the latest futile effort to break the election-year gridlock that’s consumed Capitol Hill on issues dealing with jobs and the economy.

On a 53-44 vote, Republicans shot down the Democratic bill that would have provided a 10 percent income tax credits to small businesses that hire new workers or give current workers raises, as well as allow companies to quickly write off purchases on new equipment. Sixty votes were needed.
