Can anyone translate this phrase into Latin, "We of the purple of glove"? I would greatly appreciate it.

It is nothing sinister. I comes from a line of poetry by Jim Morrison. "Resident Mochery, give us an hour for magic / We of the purple glove/ the starling flight, the velvet hour..."

Ah, now I see.

I could find no word that means glove in the generic sense. It seems the
Romans wore very long sleeves that functioned as gloves for them.
However, I did find two words we might borrow.

Chirotheca is a later Latin word with Greek roots that was used to mean a
spefic glove worn by a bishop.

Digitabulum is the word for a glove worn in gathering olives.

So...

Nos de chirotheca purpurea.

-or-

Nos de digitabulo purpureo.

Thanks
Thanks for the info. What books would you recommend to assist me in the learning of Latin.

Allen and Greenough's New Latin Grammar for Schools and Colleges is online here,
thanks to the good folks at Tufts University.

You'll need a good Latin-English/English-Latin dictionary. My
recommendation is Cassell's Latin Dictionary. You can get it for about
$25 (US) at a bookstore, and probably for less at amazon.com.
